I’m all about saving space and making life easy. So decorations I can set up in the Fall and flip over the day after Thanksgiving are right up my alley. This year I created a Holiday Banner to hang in my Dining Room. It would be super cute on a Fireplace Mantel as well.
One side says Gather, and then I can easily flip it to say Ho Ho Ho for Christmas. I’m going to show you how to make it, and I have even included a free PDF printable of the letters and pattern for you!
DIY Holiday Banner Supplies
- Solid Color Cardstock 8 each of Fall and Christmas Color
- 8 Sheets Fall Scrapbook Paper
- 8 Sheets Christmas Scrapbook Paper

DIY Holiday Banner Tutorial
You are going to start by printing the free downloadable pattern. The first page can be printed on any cardstock, it will be your pattern to trace onto the scrapbook paper. The next 4 pages print on your Fall colored cardstock. Then page 6 says “Ho”, print three of those on your Christmas colored cardstock. The last page is the reindeer, print one copy on your Christmas cardstock.
Now we are ready to get crafting! Cut out the pattern for the scrapbook paper. Trace it on the back of all 16 pages and cut out. Cut out all of the lettering and graphics you printed onto your cardstock. I like to go back over the edges of the cardstock with a black marker to sharpen them up.
Once I have everything cut, I lay out the scrapbook paper to see which prints go nicely together. I don’t want two greens or two reds together, I like to mix them up.
Once you are happy with the order of the prints, start gluing your letters on, making sure they are centered. I use Elmers Craft Bond Sticks. It’s easiest if you keep the order of your scrapbook paper in place. Glue the letter on and lay it back down in order.
Now that all of your letters are glued on. We are going to glue them back to back so we can reverse our sign. I have them numbered in the image below. So glue the number one letters back to back, and then the number two and so on.
You will notice that they may not line up perfectly. That’s ok. Once they are together and the glue is dried, we can trim up the edges with scissors.
It is also easiest to put them right back in order after they are glued, with the Fall side all facing up. Now we are going to hole punch both top corners, leaving all the letters in order as we go.
It’s time to put it all together! I used Jute Twine to string the letters together because, well, I use that for everything! But a neutral ribbon would work too. I find that going back and forth, with the twine going over the front of one letter, and over the back of the next helps keep them all in place.
Once all of your letters are on, cut off the excess twine, leaving enough on the ends to tie loops to hang. Now hang it up, arrange your letters and admire your work!
